KTM 390 DUKE 2017 to 2021 - FLAWLESS ECU Performance Flash

KTM 390 Duke Tuning 2017 to 2021 – what the Performance Flash achieves

The FLAWLESS ECU Performance Flash replaces the stock software in the original engine control unit of the KTM 390 Duke for model years 2017 to 2021. Injection, ignition, lambda control, and throttle characteristics are adjusted – resulting in around 4 to +5 hp more power, 3 to +6 Nm more torque, and the elimination of the torque dip, without any additional hardware on the motorcycle.

Unlike piggyback modules or auxiliary control units, we intervene directly in the stock software. The optimization remains invisible from the outside, the ECU software number does not change, and KTM diagnostic testers can continue to be used without restriction.

We tune every software individually to your motorcycle and the hardware actually installed. Optionally, it can be combined with an individually configured overrun fuel cut-off for pops & bangs.

KTM 390 Duke: Stock vs. optimized software in comparison

Feature Stock with FLAWLESS ECU Performance Flash
Peak power 32 kW (44 hp) at 9,000 rpm approx. +4 to +5 hp
Torque 37 Nm at 7,000 rpm approx. +3 to +6 Nm
Torque dip at approx. 4,500 rpm present significantly reduced or eliminated
Power delivery Stock maps significantly smoother and more consistent
Constant throttle jerk present significantly reduced or eliminated
AFR values Stock maps optimized for the respective setup
Overrun fuel cut-off Stock characteristics individually configurable
Additional hardware on motorcycle – not required

Performance increase for the KTM 390 Duke

We write the tuning software individually for your KTM 390 Duke and adapt the maps to the hardware installed on your motorcycle.

Depending on the setup, we achieve an increase in performance of approx. +4 to +5 hp as well as around +3 to +6 Nm of torque.

The well-known torque dip of the KTM 390 Duke at approx. 4,500 rpm is significantly reduced or eliminated by our ECU optimization.

In addition to pure performance gains, we primarily improve power delivery. The 390 Duke accelerates more smoothly and consistently and reacts more directly to throttle inputs overall.

The typical constant throttle jerk of the 390 Duke is also significantly reduced or eliminated by the optimized maps.

Optimized injection and AFR values of the KTM 390 Duke

As part of the KTM 390 Duke ECU tuning, we also adapt the injection maps. As a result, the air-fuel ratio (AFR) values of your 390 Duke are in a range optimized for the respective setup.

In addition to improved drivability, this can also reduce thermal stress. The adapted mixture preparation results in lower exhaust gas temperatures, which in particular reduces the thermal load on exhaust valves and cylinder heads.

Pops & Bangs and exhaust crackle on the KTM 390 Duke

We adapt the overrun fuel cut-off of your KTM 390 Duke individually to your wishes and the installed setup – from subtle exhaust crackle to clearly audible pops and bangs.

Important: For a setup with a catalytic converter, only a subtle exhaust crackle is possible. Please state when ordering whether your 390 Duke is equipped with a catalytic converter, and we will adjust the configuration accordingly.

Individual adjustment to your setup

Every software optimization for the KTM 390 Duke is tuned to the installed setup of your motorcycle. Please provide the following information in the comment field when ordering:

  • installed rear silencer or exhaust system, e.g., LeoVince, Remus, Austin Racing, Arrow, or Akrapovic
  • installed air filter, e.g., K&N, BMC, or Rade Garage
  • catalytic converter present: yes or no
  • other relevant modifications

This allows us to optimally tune the mapping of your KTM 390 Duke to your motorcycle.

Suitable performance parts for your KTM 390 Duke

Exhaust systems and air filters in particular have an influence on the optimal map adjustment. You can find suitable parts in the following categories:

Systems from Remus, Austin Racing, or Arrow are also suitable. We are happy to clarify which combination is best for your setup before you order.

Which hardware is required for maximum performance?

To achieve the specified performance increase, the following are mandatory for the 390 Duke:

  • an aftermarket rear silencer or sport exhaust, e.g., from LeoVince, Remus, Austin Racing, Arrow, or Akrapovic
  • a sport air filter, e.g., from K&N, BMC, or Rade Garage

Without these components, the specified performance gain cannot be fully realized. The other functions of the optimization – drivability, AFR values, and overrun fuel cut-off – are available to you regardless.

How the software optimization of your KTM 390 Duke works

  1. Configure – Order your FLAWLESS ECU Performance Flash and select the desired options.
  2. Send in the ECU – Remove the ECU from your KTM 390 Duke and send it to us securely packaged and insured.
  3. Programming – Upon receipt, your control unit will generally be processed by our technicians within 24 hours. For shipments from Switzerland, the processing time is usually 24 to 72 hours.
  4. Install and ride – We will send your ECU back to you. Connect it, install it, and you're done.
  5. -->

No additional hardware necessary

No additional control unit is installed on the motorcycle for the software optimization. Your original ECU is programmed by us. The control unit is not opened or damaged in the process and remains unchanged from the outside.

The software number of your ECU remains unchanged, and KTM diagnostic testers can continue to be used without restriction.

Why FLAWLESS Industries?

We have been developing our software optimizations in-house for over 5 years and write every mapping individually – we do not use purchased ready-made files.

The basis for this is created on our own high-performance simulation dynamometer. Every setup variant – from the stock configuration to the combination of various sport exhaust systems, sport air filters, and configurations with and without a catalytic converter – is installed and specifically tuned during development. Our maps are therefore based on real measured values and not on empirical values or copied files.

Every year, we process well over 1,000 control units. Development and programming take place entirely in Germany. If you have any questions about your setup, you can reach us directly – we will advise you before you order on which configuration suits your motorcycle and intended use.

Frequently asked questions about KTM 390 Duke optimization

How much power does the KTM 390 Duke tuning provide?

Depending on the installed hardware, we achieve approx. +4 to +5 hp and +3 to +6 Nm more torque. At least as noticeable is the eliminated torque dip at approx. 4,500 rpm, the smoother power delivery, and the eliminated constant throttle jerk.

Do I need a sport exhaust or sport air filter for the optimization?

For the specified performance increase, yes – an aftermarket rear silencer and a sport air filter are necessary for this on the 390 Duke. The other functions of the optimization are also available to you with stock hardware.

Does the optimization also work with a catalytic converter?

Yes. The performance increase and the optimized injection maps are also possible with a catalytic converter. However, for the overrun fuel cut-off, only a subtle exhaust crackle can be achieved with a catalytic converter, not pops and bangs.

Is the software tuned to my exhaust system?

Yes. During tuning, we take into account the installed rear silencer, air filter, catalytic converter, and other relevant modifications. Please provide these details in the comment field of your order.

Can I continue to use a KTM tester?

Yes. KTM diagnostic testers continue to work without restriction because the software number of the ECU remains unchanged.

Does the control unit need to be opened for programming?

No. The ECU is not opened or damaged during programming. The optimization is also not detectable from the outside.

How long does the processing take?

Upon receipt of your ECU, processing generally takes place within 24 hours. For shipments from Switzerland, the processing time is usually 24 to 72 hours.

Is the optimization suitable for all 390 Duke models from 2017 to 2021?

Yes. This software optimization is intended specifically for the KTM 390 Duke of the 2017 to 2021 model years.

Am I allowed to ride on the road with the optimized software?

The software deviates from the stock state. Use is permitted exclusively on closed circuits or racetracks.
