KTM 690 DUKE 2016 to 2019 - FLAWLESS ECU Performance Flash

KTM 690 Duke Tuning 2016 to 2019 – what the Performance Flash achieves

The FLAWLESS ECU Performance Flash replaces the stock software in the original KTM 690 Duke ECU for model years 2016 to 2019. We adjust injection, ignition, lambda control, and throttle response curves – resulting in roughly 5 to 8 hp more power, 10 to 12 Nm more torque, and the elimination of the torque dip, without any additional hardware on the motorcycle.

Unlike piggyback modules or auxiliary control units, we intervene directly in the stock software. The optimization remains invisible from the outside, the ECU software number does not change, and KTM diagnostic tools can still be used without restrictions.

We tune every piece of software individually to your motorcycle and the hardware actually installed. Upon request, we can map the settings to the ride modes of your 690 Duke, which requires an aftermarket Track Pack. It can also be combined with Linear Throttle, our FLAWLESS Quickshifter GP, and an individually configured overrun fuel cut-off for pops & bangs.

Performance upgrade for the KTM 690 Duke

We write the tuning software individually for your KTM 690 Duke and adapt the maps to the hardware installed on your motorcycle.

Depending on the setup, we achieve an increase in performance of approx. +5 to +8 hp and around +10 to +12 Nm of torque.

The well-known torque dip of the KTM 690 Duke at approx. 4,500 rpm is significantly reduced or eliminated by our ECU optimization.

In addition to pure power gains, we primarily improve the power delivery. The 690 Duke accelerates more homogeneously and smoothly and responds much more directly to throttle inputs overall.

The typical low-throttle jerkiness of the 690 Duke is also significantly reduced or eliminated by the optimized maps.

Optimized injection and AFR values for the KTM 690 Duke

As part of the KTM 690 Duke ECU tuning, we also adjust the injection maps. This ensures that the Air-Fuel-Ratio (AFR) values of your 690 Duke are in an optimized range for your specific setup.

Beyond improved rideability, this can also reduce thermal stress. Adjusted mixture preparation leads to lower exhaust gas temperatures, which helps thermally relieve the exhaust valves and cylinder heads in particular.

Linear Throttle for the KTM 690 Duke

Are you looking for a more direct and controllable response? Upon request, we can program a linear throttle curve. For example, 50% throttle grip position corresponds exactly to 50% throttle body position.

This gives you a much more direct and predictable response from your KTM 690 Duke.

Mappings on the KTM 690 Duke's ride modes

We do not store the maps in separate memory slots, but directly on the ride modes of your 690 Duke. You can switch between the stock map and the full FLAWLESS ECU Performance Flash using the standard handlebar controls – without having to stop or make any physical changes.

Important: This requires an aftermarket Track Pack. Only then are multiple ride modes available on your 690 Duke:

  • Street
  • Sport
  • Rain

Additionally, the Track Pack unlocks traction control, motor slip regulation, and Supermoto ABS. Without the Track Pack, the fixed stock map remains, and switching is not possible.

We will coordinate with you at the time of ordering which configuration should be assigned to which ride mode.

FLAWLESS Quickshifter GP for the KTM 690 Duke

With our FLAWLESS Quickshifter GP, we retrofit the quickshifter on your KTM 690 Duke – without an additional sensor or auxiliary control unit on the motorcycle.

Our custom code works with the existing gear position sensor and utilizes the reference values already learned in the ECU. Manual reading or adjustment of these values is not necessary.

Note: Depending on your motorcycle's mileage, it may be necessary to re-teach the gear position sensor. Any dealer with a KTM diagnostic tool can perform this – or we can do it on-site.

Due to the closed-loop system of our code, the ignition is only re-enabled once the gear shift is completely finished. The interruption times adaptively adjust to the specific shift operation. This prevents the ignition from being reactivated too early, as can happen with systems using fixed interruption times.

Deactivating the quickshifter and shift acoustics

For maximum flexibility in everyday riding, the quickshifter can be easily switched off: Start your 690 Duke in sixth gear, and the system will remain deactivated for the duration of the ride.

Optionally, we also offer shift acoustics, which add a clearly audible sound to every gear shift.

Important: Shift acoustics are not possible in a configuration with a catalytic converter.

Pops & Bangs and exhaust burble for the KTM 690 Duke

We adjust the overrun fuel cut-off of your KTM 690 Duke individually according to your preferences and your installed setup – from a subtle burble to clearly audible pops and bangs.

Important: With a setup featuring a catalytic converter, only an exhaust burble is possible. Please specify when ordering whether your 690 Duke has a catalytic converter installed, and we will tune the configuration accordingly.

Individual tuning for your setup

Every software optimization for the KTM 690 Duke is tuned to your motorcycle's specific setup. Please provide the following information in the comments field when ordering:

  • Installed muffler or exhaust system, e.g., LeoVince, Remus, Austin Racing, Arrow, or Akrapovic
  • Installed air filter, e.g., K&N, BMC, or Rade Garage
  • Catalytic converter present: yes or no
  • Other relevant modifications

This allows us to optimally tune the mapping of your KTM 690 Duke to your motorcycle.

Suitable Performance Parts for your KTM 690 Duke

Exhaust systems and air filters, in particular, influence the optimal map tuning. You can find suitable parts in the following categories:

  • Exhaust systems from Akrapovic, LeoVince, and MIVV
  • Sports air filters from K&N and MWR; filters from BMC or Rade Garage are also suitable

Systems from Remus, Austin Racing, or Arrow are also suitable. We are happy to clarify which combination is best for your setup before you place your order.

What hardware is needed for maximum power?

To achieve the stated performance increase, the following are strictly required for the 690 Duke:

  • An aftermarket muffler or sports exhaust, e.g., from LeoVince, Remus, Austin Racing, Arrow, or Akrapovic
  • A sports air filter, e.g., from K&N, BMC, or Rade Garage

Without these components, the stated performance gain cannot be fully realized. The other features of the optimization – rideability, AFR values, Linear Throttle, Quickshifter GP, and overrun fuel cut-off – remain available to you regardless.

How the software optimization for your KTM 690 Duke works

  1. Configure – Order your FLAWLESS ECU Performance Flash and select the desired options.
  2. Send in ECU – Remove the ECU from your KTM 690 Duke and send it to us well-packaged and insured.
  3. Programming – Upon receipt, your control unit is typically processed by our technicians within 24 hours. For shipments from Switzerland, the processing time is usually 24 to 72 hours.
  4. Install and ride – We will send your control unit back to you. Connect it, install it, done.

No additional hardware necessary

No additional control unit is installed on the motorcycle for the software optimization. We program your original ECU. The control unit is not opened or damaged and remains unchanged from the outside.

The software number of your ECU remains unchanged, and KTM diagnostic tools can still be used without any restrictions.

Why FLAWLESS Industries?

We have been developing our software optimizations in-house for over 5 years and write every map individually – we do not use purchased off-the-shelf files.

The foundation is created on our own high-performance simulation test bench. Every setup variant – from the stock configuration to combinations of various sports exhaust systems, sports air filters, and configurations with and without a catalytic converter – is installed and specifically tuned during development. Our maps are therefore based on real measurements rather than estimates or copied files.

We process well over 1,000 control units annually. Development and programming take place entirely in Germany. If you have questions about your setup, you can reach us directly – we will advise you before you order on which configuration fits your motorcycle and purpose.

Frequently asked questions about KTM 690 Duke optimization

How much power does the KTM 690 Duke tuning provide?

Depending on the hardware installed, we achieve approx. +5 to +8 hp and +10 to +12 Nm more torque. At least as noticeable is the elimination of the torque dip at approx. 4,500 rpm, the smoother power delivery, and the elimination of low-throttle jerkiness.

Which ride modes are the maps assigned to?

We assign the maps directly to the ride modes of your 690 Duke, not to separate memory slots. With an aftermarket Track Pack installed, Street, Sport, and Rain modes are available. We coordinate with you upon ordering which configuration is assigned to which mode.

Do I need the Track Pack for this?

Yes. Only the aftermarket Track Pack unlocks multiple ride modes on the 690 Duke – along with traction control, motor slip regulation, and Supermoto ABS. Without the Track Pack, you remain on the fixed stock map and switching is not possible.

Do I need an additional sensor for the quickshifter?

No. The FLAWLESS Quickshifter GP uses the existing gear position sensor and its learned reference values. Depending on the mileage, it may be necessary to re-teach the sensor – any dealer can do this with the KTM tool, or we can do it on-site.

Can I switch off the quickshifter?

Yes. Start your 690 Duke in sixth gear, and the quickshifter will remain deactivated for the duration of the ride.

Are there shift acoustics?

Yes, optionally. However, they are not possible in a configuration with a catalytic converter.

What does Linear Throttle do?

It sets the throttle curve to a 1:1 ratio with the throttle body. 50% throttle grip therefore means exactly 50% throttle body opening, which makes the response more direct and easier to modulate.

Do I need a sports exhaust or sports air filter for the optimization?

For the stated power increase, yes – an aftermarket muffler and a sports air filter are required for the 690 Duke. The other optimization features are available to you even with stock hardware.

Does the optimization work with a catalytic converter?

Yes. The performance increase and optimized injection maps are possible even with a catalytic converter. Regarding the overrun fuel cut-off, however, only a burble can be achieved with a catalytic converter, not pops and bangs.

Is the software tuned to my exhaust system?

Yes. During the tuning process, we take into account the installed muffler, air filter, catalytic converter, and other relevant modifications. Please provide these details in the comments field when ordering.

Can I still use a KTM diagnostic tool?

Yes. KTM diagnostic tools continue to function without restriction because the ECU software number remains unchanged.

Does the control unit need to be opened for programming?

No. The ECU is not opened or damaged during programming. The optimization is also not detectable from the outside.

How long does the processing take?

Upon receipt of your ECU, processing typically occurs within 24 hours. For shipments from Switzerland, the processing time is usually 24 to 72 hours.

Is the optimization suitable for all 690 Duke models from 2016 to 2019?

Yes. This software optimization is specifically designed for the KTM 690 Duke of model years 2016 to 2019.

Can I use the optimized software on public roads?

The software deviates from the stock configuration. Use is permitted exclusively on closed-off terrain or the racetrack.
