KTM 690 DUKE R 2016 to 2019 - FLAWLESS ECU Performance Flash
KTM 690 Duke R Tuning 2016 to 2019 – what the Performance Flash achieves
The FLAWLESS ECU Performance Flash replaces the stock software in the original KTM 690 Duke R ECU for model years 2016 to 2019. By adjusting injection, ignition, lambda control, and throttle response curves, this results in approximately 5 to 8 hp more power, 10 to 12 Nm more torque, and the elimination of the torque dip, with no additional hardware required on the motorcycle.
Unlike piggyback modules or auxiliary control units, we intervene directly in the factory software. The optimization remains invisible from the outside, the ECU software number does not change, and KTM diagnostic tools can continue to be used without restriction.
We tailor each software individually to your motorcycle and the hardware actually installed. Upon request, we can map the settings to the ride modes of your 690 Duke R – the Track Pack required for this is standard on the R. It can also be combined with Linear Throttle, our FLAWLESS Quickshifter GP, and an individually configured overrun fuel cut for pops & bangs.

Performance increase for the KTM 690 Duke R
We write the tuning software individually for your KTM 690 Duke R and adapt the maps to the hardware installed on your bike.
Depending on the setup, this allows us to achieve an increase in power of approx. +5 to +8 hp as well as around +10 to +12 Nm of torque.
The well-known torque dip of the KTM 690 Duke R at approx. 4,500 rpm is significantly reduced or eliminated by our ECU optimization.
In addition to the pure power increase, we primarily improve power delivery. The 690 Duke R accelerates more homogeneously and consistently and responds more directly to throttle inputs overall.
The typical constant throttle jerkiness of the 690 Duke R is also significantly reduced or eliminated by the optimized maps.
Optimized injection and AFR values of the KTM 690 Duke R
As part of the KTM 690 Duke R ECU tuning, we also adapt the injection maps. This brings the Air-Fuel-Ratio (AFR) values of your 690 Duke R into a range optimized for your specific setup.
In addition to improved rideability, this can also reduce thermal stress. Adjusted mixture preparation leads to lower exhaust gas temperatures, which relieves thermal stress on exhaust valves and cylinder heads in particular.
Linear Throttle for the KTM 690 Duke R
Do you want a more direct and controllable response? Upon request, we can program a linear throttle curve. For example, 50% throttle grip position corresponds exactly to 50% throttle body position.
This gives you a significantly more direct and predictable response from your KTM 690 Duke R.
Mappings on the ride modes of the KTM 690 Duke R
We do not put the mappings in separate memory slots, but directly onto the ride modes of your 690 Duke R. You can switch between the stock mapping and the complete FLAWLESS ECU Performance Flash using the standard handlebar controls – without having to stop or make mechanical changes.
The advantage of the R: The Track Pack is standard on the 690 Duke R, so nothing needs to be retrofitted. This gives you several ride modes from the factory:
- Street
- Sport
- Rain
- Supermoto
Traction control, engine drag torque control, and Supermoto ABS are also standard equipment.
We will coordinate with you when ordering which configuration should be assigned to which ride mode.
FLAWLESS Quickshifter GP for the KTM 690 Duke R
With our FLAWLESS Quickshifter GP, we retrofit your KTM 690 Duke R with a quickshifter – without an additional sensor and without an auxiliary control unit on the motorcycle.
Our custom code works with the existing gear position sensor and uses the reference values already learned in the control unit. Manually reading out or adjusting these values is not necessary.
Note: Depending on the mileage of your motorcycle, it may be necessary to re-learn the gear position sensor. Any dealer can do this with the KTM tester – or we can do it at our facility.
Thanks to the closed-loop system of our code, the ignition is only released again once the gear change is completely finished. The interruption times adapt dynamically to the respective gear change. This prevents the ignition from being reactivated too early, as can happen with systems using fixed interruption times.
Deactivating the quickshifter and shift acoustics
For maximum flexibility in everyday riding, the quickshifter can simply be deactivated: Start your 690 Duke R in sixth gear, and the system will remain deactivated for the duration of the ride.
Optionally, we also offer shift acoustics, which give every gear change a clearly audible soundscape.
Important: Shift acoustics are not possible in configurations with a catalytic converter.
Pops & Bangs and overrun burbles on the KTM 690 Duke R
We adjust the overrun fuel cut of your KTM 690 Duke R individually to your wishes and the installed setup – from subtle burbles to clearly audible pops and bangs.
Important: In a setup with a catalytic converter, only overrun burbles are possible. Please indicate when ordering whether a cat is installed on your 690 Duke R, and we will adjust the configuration accordingly.
Individual tuning for your setup
Every software optimization for the KTM 690 Duke R is tuned to the installed setup of your motorcycle. Please provide the following information in the comments field when ordering:
- Installed muffler or exhaust system, e.g., LeoVince, Remus, Austin Racing, Arrow, or Akrapovic
- Installed air filter, e.g., K&N, BMC, or Rade Garage
- Catalytic converter present: yes or no
- Other relevant modifications
This allows us to optimize the mapping of your KTM 690 Duke R perfectly for your motorcycle.
Suitable performance parts for your KTM 690 Duke R
Exhaust systems and air filters, in particular, influence the optimal map tuning. You can find suitable parts from us in the following categories:
- Exhaust systems from Akrapovic, LeoVince, and MIVV
- Sport air filters from K&N and MWR; BMC or Rade Garage are also suitable
Systems from Remus, Austin Racing, or Arrow are also suitable. We would be happy to clarify which combination works best for your setup before you order.
What hardware is required for maximum performance?
To achieve the stated performance increase on the 690 Duke R, the following are mandatory:
- an aftermarket muffler or sport exhaust, e.g., from LeoVince, Remus, Austin Racing, Arrow, or Akrapovic
- a sport air filter, e.g., from K&N, BMC, or Rade Garage
Without these components, the stated performance gain cannot be fully realized. The other functions of the optimization – rideability, AFR values, Linear Throttle, Quickshifter GP, and overrun fuel cut – are available to you regardless.

Why FLAWLESS Industries?
We have been developing our software optimizations in-house for over 5 years and write every map individually – we do not use purchased ready-made files.
The basis for this is created on our own high-performance simulation test bench. Every setup variant – from the stock configuration to combinations of various sport exhaust systems, sport air filters, and configurations with and without a catalytic converter – is installed and specifically tuned individually during development. Our maps are therefore based on real measured values and not on empirical values or copied files.
We process well over 1000 control units annually. Development and programming take place entirely in Germany. If you have questions about your setup, you can reach us directly – we will advise you before you order on which configuration suits your motorcycle and intended use.

Frequently asked questions about KTM 690 Duke R optimization
How much power does tuning the KTM 690 Duke R provide?
Depending on the hardware installed, we achieve approx. +5 to +8 hp and +10 to +12 Nm more torque. At least as noticeable is the eliminated torque dip at approx. 4,500 rpm, the smoother power delivery, and the eliminated constant throttle jerkiness.
On which ride modes are the mappings located?
We place the mappings directly on the ride modes of your 690 Duke R, not in separate memory slots. Thanks to the standard Track Pack, Street, Sport, Rain, and Supermoto are available for this. We coordinate with you when ordering which configuration is on which ride mode.
Do I need a Track Pack for this?
No. The Track Pack is standard on the 690 Duke R – along with traction control, engine drag torque control, and Supermoto ABS. So you don't need to retrofit anything; the ride modes are available from the factory.
Do I need an additional sensor for the quickshifter?
No. The FLAWLESS Quickshifter GP uses the existing gear position sensor and its learned reference values. Depending on the mileage, it may be necessary to re-learn the sensor – any dealer can do this with the KTM tester, or we can do it on-site.
Can I switch off the quickshifter?
Yes. Start your 690 Duke R in sixth gear, and the quickshifter will remain deactivated for the duration of the ride.
Is there shift acoustics?
Yes, optional. However, it is not possible in a configuration with a catalytic converter.
What does the Linear Throttle do?
It sets the throttle grip curve 1:1 to the throttle body position. 50% throttle grip means exactly 50% throttle body position, which makes the response more direct and easier to dose.
Do I need a sport exhaust or sport air filter for the optimization?
Yes, for the stated performance increase – on the 690 Duke R, an aftermarket muffler and a sport air filter are necessary for this. The other functions of the optimization are available to you even with stock hardware.
Does the optimization also work with a catalytic converter?
Yes. The performance increase and optimized injection maps are also possible with a catalytic converter. Regarding the overrun fuel cut, however, only overrun burbles can be displayed with a catalytic converter, not pops and bangs.
Is the software tuned to my exhaust system?
Yes. We take into account the installed muffler, air filter, catalytic converter, and other relevant modifications during tuning. Please include these details in the comments field of your order.
Can I continue to use a KTM tester?
Yes. KTM diagnostic tools continue to function without restriction because the ECU software number remains unchanged.
Does the control unit have to be opened for programming?
No. The ECU is not opened or damaged during programming. The optimization is also not visible from the outside.
How long does processing take?
After your ECU is received, processing generally takes place within 24 hours. For shipments from Switzerland, the processing time is usually 24 to 72 hours.
Is the optimization suitable for all 690 Duke R models from 2016 to 2019?
Yes. This software optimization is intended specifically for the KTM 690 Duke R of the model years 2016 to 2019.
Am I allowed to drive with the optimized software on public roads?
The software deviates from the stock status. Use is permitted exclusively on closed terrain or the racetrack.
