KTM 690 SMC-R EURO 5 Plus Tuning from 2026 – what the Performance Flash achieves

The FLAWLESS ECU Performance Flash replaces the stock software in the original KTM 690 SMC-R control unit starting from the 2026 model year. Injection, ignition, lambda control, and throttle valve mapping are all adjusted. The result is an increase in peak power of around 2.5 to 3.5 hp, up to 23 Nm more torque at approximately 4,500 rpm, and the elimination of the torque dip – without requiring any additional hardware on the motorcycle.

Unlike piggyback modules or auxiliary control units, we intervene directly in the stock software. The optimization remains invisible from the outside, the ECU software number does not change, and KTM diagnostic testers remain fully functional.

We tailor each software configuration individually to your motorcycle and the hardware actually installed. Optionally combinable with the FLAWLESS Power Mapswitch, our optimized FLAWLESS Quickshifter, Linear Throttle, Hardcut Limiter, and other functions.

Performance increase for the KTM 690 SMC-R from 2026

We write the tuning software individually for your KTM 690 SMC-R and adapt the maps to the hardware installed on your motorcycle.

Depending on the setup, we achieve a power increase of approx. +2.5 to +3.5 hp at the peak as well as around +20 to +23 Nm of torque at approx. 4,500 rpm.

The difference is clearly noticeable, especially in the mid-RPM range. The well-known torque dip of the KTM 690 SMC-R at approx. 4,500 rpm is significantly reduced or eliminated by our ECU optimization.

In addition to the pure power increase, we also improve the overall power delivery. The motorcycle accelerates more homogeneously and smoothly, and responds much more directly to throttle inputs.

The typical constant throttle surging of the KTM 690 SMC-R is also significantly reduced or eliminated by the optimized maps.

Optimized injection and AFR values for the KTM 690 SMC-R

As part of the KTM 690 SMC-R ECU tuning, we also adjust the injection maps. This ensures that the Air-Fuel Ratio (AFR) values of your 690 SMC-R are in an optimized range for the respective setup.

Beyond improved rideability, this can also reduce thermal stress. Adjusted mixture preparation results in lower exhaust temperatures, which provides thermal relief for the exhaust valves and cylinder head in particular.

FLAWLESS Cruise Control for the KTM 690 SMC-R

With the optional FLAWLESS Cruise Control, we program cruise control directly into your KTM 690 SMC-R’s ECU. It is operated via the original instrument cluster and standard handlebar switches. No additional hardware needs to be retrofitted.

The cruise control can be activated from 20 km/h and as early as 1st gear. This allows you to maintain a constant speed on long stretches, transport journeys, or in speed-restricted areas without having to constantly readjust the throttle grip.

FLAWLESS Launch Control for the KTM 690 SMC-R

The KTM 690 SMC-R comes with stock launch control. However, it operates very unspectacularly and without emotion. We have completely overhauled this function with the optional FLAWLESS Launch Control.

The launch control now sounds extremely aggressive. Upon launch, there is an audible bang from the exhaust, and depending on the exhaust system, flames may emerge from the end muffler.

You decide for yourself in which ride modes (STREET, SPORT, and TRACK) the FLAWLESS Launch Control should be active.

Important: The FLAWLESS Launch Control may only be used in conjunction with an exhaust system without a catalytic converter and without a DB-killer.

FLAWLESS Power Mapswitch for the KTM 690 SMC-R

With the optional FLAWLESS Power Mapswitch, you can switch between different ECU configurations using your KTM 690 SMC-R’s ride modes. For example, the stock mapping can be stored in one ride mode, while the full optimization is active in another.

Depending on the selected configuration, the following functions, among others, can be assigned per ride mode:

  • Performance increase
  • Adjusted lambda control
  • Linear Throttle
  • Deceleration fuel cut-off
  • Pops & Bangs or overrun burble
  • Quickshifter shift acoustics

This gives you several different characteristics directly via the stock ride modes of your KTM.

FLAWLESS Quickshifter / Quickshifter optimization for the KTM 690 SMC-R

Our ground-up developed FLAWLESS Quickshifter optimizes the shifting behavior of the KTM 690 SMC-R. This involves adjusting not only the interruption times but also the quickshifter algorithm itself to allow for faster and sportier gear changes.

Optionally, we can also program sporty shift acoustics in the TRACK and SPORT ride modes. This creates a much more present soundscape with every gear shift.

Important: Shift acoustics are not possible in a configuration with a catalytic converter.

Hardcut Limiter for the KTM 690 SMC-R

With the optional Hardcut Limiter, we change the characteristic of your KTM 690 SMC-R’s stock rev limiter. Instead of the soft stock limiter, you get a much more aggressive hardcut or race limiter. Depending on the exhaust system, this can also cause flames to shoot out of the exhaust.

Important: The Hardcut Limiter may only be used in conjunction with an exhaust system without a catalytic converter and without a DB-killer. Excessive use may lead to increased engine wear.

Optimizing the fan temperature of the KTM 690 SMC-R

As standard, the KTM 690 SMC-R fan only switches on at approx. 100 °C. Upon request, we reduce the fan activation temperature to 95 °C.

This allows active cooling to begin earlier. The engine can be thermally relieved, especially during high ambient temperatures, in city traffic, or during slow riding.

Linear Throttle for the KTM 690 SMC-R

Do you want a more direct and easier-to-modulate response? Upon request, we can program a linear throttle grip curve. For example, 50% throttle grip position equals exactly 50% throttle valve position.

This gives you a much more direct and predictable response from your KTM 690 SMC-R.

Pops & Bangs and overrun burble on the KTM 690 SMC-R

We adjust the deceleration fuel cut-off of your KTM 690 SMC-R individually to your wishes and the installed setup. Depending on the configuration, the changes can also be assigned to specific ride modes.

For vehicles without a catalytic converter, more pronounced Pops & Bangs are possible.

With a setup with a catalytic converter, we only program a more subtle overrun burble.

FLAWLESS Gearswitch for the KTM 690 SMC-R

With the Gearswitch function, the ride mode selection of your KTM can be selectively locked or unlocked. When starting the motorcycle normally, only the STREET ride mode is active. Although the selection on the display can be changed, STREET remains stored in the ECU.

If you start your KTM in 2nd gear, however, the full ride mode selection is unlocked again, and you can switch modes as usual. Activation is indicated by the flashing engine warning light before starting the engine.

If you would like to use the FLAWLESS Gearswitch, please indicate this in the comment field of your order.

Which option fits which setup?

Some functions depend on whether your KTM 690 SMC-R has a catalytic converter installed and whether the exhaust system has a DB-killer. This overview shows you what is possible in each case:

Function with catalytic converter without catalytic converter
Performance increase possible possible
Optimized injection and AFR possible possible
FLAWLESS Power Mapswitch possible possible
Quickshifter optimization possible possible
Linear Throttle possible possible
Optimized fan activation temp. possible possible
FLAWLESS Gearswitch possible possible
Quickshifter shift acoustics not possible possible
Pops & Bangs only subtle overrun burble Pops & Bangs possible
Hardcut Limiter not possible only without DB-killer

Why FLAWLESS Industries?

We have been developing our software optimizations in-house for over 5 years and write every mapping individually – we do not use purchased, ready-made files. Functions like the FLAWLESS Quickshifter, the FLAWLESS Power Mapswitch, and the FLAWLESS Gearswitch are complete in-house developments.

The foundation for this is created on our own high-performance simulation dyno. Each setup variant – from the stock configuration to the combination of various sport exhaust systems, sport air filters, and configurations with and without a catalytic converter – is installed and specifically tuned during development. Our maps are therefore based on real measured values and not on "rule of thumb" or copied files.

Every year, we process well over 1,000 control units. Development and programming take place entirely in Germany. If you have any questions about your setup, you can reach us directly – we will advise you before you order on which configuration fits your motorcycle and intended use.

Frequently asked questions about the KTM 690 SMC-R EURO 5 Plus optimization

How much power does tuning the KTM 690 SMC-R EURO 5 Plus provide?

Depending on the hardware installed, we achieve approx. +2.5 to +3.5 hp peak power and up to +20 to +23 Nm more torque at approx. 4,500 rpm. The greater gain lies not in the peak power, but in the mid-range.

Is the torque dip of the KTM 690 SMC-R at 4,500 rpm eliminated?

Yes. The ECU optimization improves the area around approx. 4,500 rpm in particular and significantly reduces or eliminates the torque dip present there as standard.

Is the software adjusted to my exhaust system?

Yes. We take into account the installed silencer, air filter, air filter cover, catalytic converter, and other relevant modifications during tuning. Please provide these details in the comments field of your order.

Does the optimization work with a catalytic converter?

Yes. Power increase, mapswitch, quickshifter optimization, and linear throttle are also possible with a catalytic converter. The quickshifter shift acoustics, pronounced pops & bangs, and the hardcut limiter are not possible with a catalytic converter.

Do I need a sports air filter for the optimization?

No. Software optimization also works with the stock air filter. However, for maximum power gains, we recommend a sports air filter, an open air filter cover, and an aftermarket silencer.

Does the ECU need to be opened for programming?

No. The ECU is not opened or damaged during programming. The optimization is also not detectable from the outside.

Can I continue to use a KTM diagnostic tester?

Yes. KTM diagnostic testers continue to work without restriction, as the ECU software number remains unchanged.

How long does the processing take?

Upon receipt of your ECU, processing usually takes place within 24 hours. For shipments from Switzerland, the processing time is usually 24 to 72 hours.

What is the difference between mapswitch and full power mapswitch?
