KTM EXC-F 450 2012 to 2016 - FLAWLESS Quickshifter Retrofit
Quickshifter Retrofit for the KTM EXC-F 450 2012 to 2016
With the FLAWLESS Quickshifter Retrofit, we retrofit the quickshifter directly into the original ECU of your KTM EXC-F 450 from model years 2012 to 2016 – for clutchless upshifts, without an additional control unit and without modifying the wiring harness. As usual, including upshift rev-matching.
This is made possible by our own custom code in the engine control unit. Since the EXC models from model years 2012 to 2016 do not come with a gear position sensor from the factory, we include the Quickshifter sensor from SP Electronics. The sensor is mounted on the shift lever and connects plug & play to the lambda probe connector – without cutting, soldering, or modifications.

| Additional control units on the motorcycle | – | not required |
| ECU software version | Stock | unchanged |
No additional control unit – how the retrofit works
Standard quickshifter retrofits require an additional control unit on the motorcycle that interrupts the ignition via an intermediate wiring harness. We don't need one.
With the FLAWLESS Quickshifter Retrofit, the entire shifting algorithm runs in the original ECU of your EXC-F 450. The SP Electronics sensor on the shift lever sends the shift pulse directly to the ECU via the lambda probe connector – the lambda input is remapped accordingly in our custom code. You don't need to wire anything, cut anything, or solder anything.
Adaptive ignition cut times instead of fixed settings
External quickshifter modules work with fixed ignition cut times and release the ignition according to a rigid specification – too early or too late depending on the gear and RPM.
In contrast, our custom code calculates the ignition cut time directly in the ECU depending on RPM and load, just like KTM does on models with a factory quickshifter. You get consistently smooth performance on every shift – without unnecessary wear on the transmission.
How your quickshifter retrofit works
- Configure – Order the FLAWLESS Quickshifter Retrofit for your KTM EXC-F 450 and select the desired options.
- Send in the ECU – Remove the ECU from your KTM EXC-F 450 and send it to us well packaged and insured.
- Programming – Upon receipt, our technicians will usually process your ECU within 24 hours. For shipments from Switzerland, the processing time is usually 24 to 72 hours.
- Install and ride – We send your ECU back to you together with the SP Electronics sensor and the adapter cable. Mount the sensor on the shift lever, plug the adapter cable into the lambda probe connector, install the ECU, and you're done.
Scope of delivery
- Programming of your original ECU with the FLAWLESS Quickshifter Retrofit
- SP Electronics Quickshifter sensor (Supermoto/Offroad version, Made in Italy) for mounting on the shift lever
- Plug & play adapter cable
The ECU is not opened or damaged during programming and also remains unchanged from the outside. Your ECU software version remains unchanged, and KTM diagnostic testers can continue to be used without restriction.
Why FLAWLESS Industries?
We have been developing our software optimizations in-house for over 5 years and write every piece of code individually – we do not use pre-purchased ready-made files.
The foundation for this is our own high-performance simulation test bench. Every configuration is individually installed and specifically tuned there during development. Our programming is therefore based on real measured values, not on empirical values or copied files.
We process well over 1,000 ECUs every year. Development and programming take place entirely in Germany. If you have any questions about your motorcycle, you can contact us directly – we will advise you before you order.

Frequently asked questions about the quickshifter retrofit
Why is a sensor required for the 2012 to 2016 models?
The EXC-F models of these model years do not come with a gear position sensor from the factory. The included SP Electronics sensor on the shift lever detects the shift and reports it to the ECU. From model year 2017 onwards, we use the existing gear position sensor instead – see FLAWLESS Quickshifter GP.
Does an additional control unit need to be installed?
No. We program the quickshifter directly into your original ECU. No additional box is installed on the motorcycle.
Do I need to change anything in the wiring harness?
No. The sensor is connected plug & play to the lambda probe connector with the included adapter cable. Cutting, soldering, or modifications are not necessary.
Will the lambda probe still work afterwards?
The lambda probe is no longer installed on motorcycles with unrestricted power. The connector is therefore unused anyway. We use the corresponding input to trigger the quickshifter in the ECU.
Does the quickshifter also work when downshifting?
No. The sensor only detects upshifting. Downshifting is done as usual with the clutch.
Can I deactivate the quickshifter?
Yes. In combination with the FLAWLESS CAN-Bus map switcher, you can switch the quickshifter on and off directly via the QS button on the handlebar. Without the map switcher, the quickshifter is permanently active.
Is the rev-matching mandatory?
No. Upshift rev-matching is active by default, but can be deactivated on request. Simply indicate this in the comment field at checkout.
What are adaptive ignition cut times?
The duration of the ignition cut is calculated in the ECU for every shift depending on RPM and load, instead of following a rigid specification. This keeps the shifting quality consistently high across all gears and driving situations.
Can I continue to use a diagnostic tester?
Yes. KTM diagnostic testers continue to work without restriction, as the ECU software version remains unchanged.
Does the ECU need to be opened for programming?
No. The ECU is not opened or damaged during programming. The retrofit is also not visible from the outside.
How long does processing take?
After receiving your ECU, processing usually takes within 24 hours. For shipments from Switzerland, the processing time is usually 24 to 72 hours.
Is the retrofit suitable for all EXC-F 450 models from 2012 to 2016?
Yes. This quickshifter retrofit is specifically designed for the KTM EXC-F 450 from model years 2012 to 2016.
Can I combine the quickshifter with a performance upgrade?
Yes. The FLAWLESS Quickshifter Retrofit is also available as an option within our complete FLAWLESS ECU Performance Flash, together with performance upgrades, CAN-Bus map switchers, and other features.
