KTM 390 DUKE 2013 to 2016 - FLAWLESS ECU Performance Flash

KTM 390 Duke Tuning 2013 to 2016 – what the Performance Flash achieves

The FLAWLESS ECU Performance Flash replaces the stock software in the original KTM 390 Duke ECU for model years 2013 to 2016. Injection, ignition, lambda control, and throttle valve mapping are all adjusted – resulting in approximately +4 to +5 hp more power, +3 to +6 Nm more torque, and the elimination of the torque dip, without any additional hardware on the motorcycle.

Unlike piggyback modules or auxiliary control units, we intervene directly in the stock software. The optimization remains invisible from the outside, the ECU software number does not change, and KTM diagnostic testers can continue to be used without restriction.

We tune every software individually to your motorcycle and the hardware actually installed. Optionally combinable with an individually configured fuel cut-off for pops & bangs.

KTM 390 Duke: Stock vs. optimized software in comparison

Feature Stock with FLAWLESS ECU Performance Flash
Peak power 32 kW (44 hp) at 9,500 rpm approx. +4 to +5 hp
Torque 35 Nm at 7,250 rpm approx. +3 to +6 Nm
Torque dip at approx. 4,500 rpm present significantly reduced or eliminated
Power delivery Stock maps significantly more homogeneous and smoother
Constant throttle jerking present significantly reduced or eliminated
AFR values Stock maps optimized for the respective setup
Fuel cut-off Stock curve individually configurable
Additional motorcycle hardware – not required

Performance increase for the KTM 390 Duke

We write the tuning software individually for your KTM 390 Duke and adapt the maps to the hardware installed on your motorcycle.

Depending on the setup, we achieve a power increase of approximately +4 to +5 hp as well as around +3 to +6 Nm of torque.

The well-known torque dip of the KTM 390 Duke at approx. 4,500 rpm is significantly reduced or eliminated by our ECU optimization.

Beyond pure power, we primarily improve power delivery. The 390 Duke accelerates more homogeneously and smoothly and reacts more directly to throttle inputs overall.

The typical constant throttle jerking of the 390 Duke is also significantly reduced or eliminated by the optimized maps.

Optimized injection and AFR values of the KTM 390 Duke

As part of the KTM 390 Duke ECU tuning, we also adjust the injection maps. This brings your 390 Duke's Air-Fuel-Ratio (AFR) values into an optimized range for your specific setup.

In addition to improved rideability, thermal stress can also be reduced. The adjusted mixture preparation results in lower exhaust gas temperatures, which particularly eases the thermal load on exhaust valves and cylinder heads.

Pops & Bangs and overrun burbles on the KTM 390 Duke

We adapt the fuel cut-off of your KTM 390 Duke individually to your wishes and the installed setup – from subtle burbles to clearly audible pops & bangs.

Important: With a setup featuring a catalytic converter, only mild burbles are possible. Please indicate when ordering whether your 390 Duke is equipped with a catalytic converter, and we will tune the configuration accordingly.

Individual tuning for your setup

Every software optimization for the KTM 390 Duke is tuned to your motorcycle's specific hardware. Please provide the following information in the comments field when ordering:

  • installed exhaust silencer or exhaust system, e.g., LeoVince, Remus, Austin Racing, Arrow, or Akrapovic
  • installed air filter, e.g., K&N, BMC, or Rade Garage
  • catalytic converter present: yes or no
  • other relevant modifications

This allows us to optimally tune the mapping of your KTM 390 Duke to your motorcycle.

Suitable Performance Parts for your KTM 390 Duke

The exhaust system and air filter in particular influence optimal map tuning. You can find suitable parts in the following categories:

Systems from Remus, Austin Racing, or Arrow are also suitable. We are happy to clarify which combination is best for your setup before you order.

What hardware is required for maximum performance?

To achieve the stated performance increase, the following are mandatory for the 390 Duke:

  • an aftermarket exhaust silencer or sports exhaust, e.g., from LeoVince, Remus, Austin Racing, Arrow, or Akrapovic
  • a sports air filter, e.g., from K&N, BMC, or Rade Garage

Without these components, the specified power gain cannot be fully realized. The other functions of the optimization – rideability, AFR values, and fuel cut-off – are available to you regardless.

How the software optimization for your KTM 390 Duke works

  1. Configure – Order your FLAWLESS ECU Performance Flash and select your desired options.
  2. Send in the ECU – Remove the ECU from your KTM 390 Duke and send it to us securely packaged and insured.
  3. Programming – Upon receipt, your control unit is typically processed by our technicians within 24 hours. For shipments from Switzerland, processing time is usually 24 to 72 hours.
  4. Install and ride – We send your control unit back to you. Connect, install, done.

No additional hardware necessary

No additional control unit is installed on the motorcycle for the software optimization. Your stock ECU is programmed by us. The control unit is not opened or damaged, and it remains unchanged from the outside.

The software number of your ECU remains unchanged, and KTM diagnostic testers can continue to be used without restriction.

Why FLAWLESS Industries?

We have been developing our software optimizations in-house for over 5 years and write every mapping individually – we do not use purchased off-the-shelf files.

The basis for this is created on our own high-performance simulation test bench. Every setup variant – from the stock configuration to combinations of various sports exhaust systems, sports air filters, and configurations with and without a catalytic converter – is installed and specifically tuned there during development. Our maps are therefore based on real measured values and not on anecdotal experience or copied files.

We process well over 1,000 ECUs annually. Development and programming take place entirely in Germany. If you have questions about your setup, you can reach us directly – we will advise you before your order on which configuration suits your motorcycle and intended use.

Frequently asked questions about KTM 390 Duke optimization

How much power does tuning the KTM 390 Duke provide?

Depending on the hardware installed, we achieve approx. +4 to +5 hp and +3 to +6 Nm more torque. At least as noticeable is the eliminated torque dip at approx. 4,500 rpm, the smoother power delivery, and the eliminated constant throttle jerking.

Do I need a sports exhaust or sports air filter for the optimization?

Yes, for the stated performance increase – an aftermarket silencer and a sports air filter are necessary for the 390 Duke. The other optimization functions are also available to you with stock hardware.

Does the optimization work with a catalytic converter?

Yes. The performance increase and the optimized injection maps are also possible with a catalytic converter. Regarding the fuel cut-off, only overrun burbles can be realized with a catalytic converter, not pops & bangs.

Is the software tuned to my exhaust system?

Yes. We take into account the installed silencer, air filter, catalytic converter, and other relevant modifications during tuning. Please provide these details in the comments field of your order.

Can I continue to use a KTM tester?

Yes. KTM diagnostic testers continue to work without restriction because the ECU software number remains unchanged.

Does the control unit need to be opened for programming?

No. The ECU is not opened or damaged during programming. The optimization is also not detectable from the outside.

How long does the processing take?

Upon receipt of your ECU, processing is usually carried out within 24 hours. For shipments from Switzerland, the processing time is usually 24 to 72 hours.

Is the optimization suitable for all 390 Duke models from 2013 to 2016?

Yes. This software optimization is intended specifically for the KTM 390 Duke model years 2013 to 2016.

Am I allowed to drive on public roads with the optimized software?

The software deviates from the stock standard. Use is permitted exclusively on closed circuits or racetracks.
