KTM EXC-F 500 Tuning 2020 to 2023 – what the Performance Flash does

The FLAWLESS ECU Performance Flash replaces the stock software in the original KTM EXC-F 500 engine control unit for model years 2020 to 2023. Injection, ignition, lambda control, and throttle response are all adjusted, resulting in approximately 3 to 4 hp more power and 4 to 6 Nm more torque—and up to 7 to 8 hp with the FLAWLESS Performance Kit—all without an additional control unit on the motorcycle.

Unlike piggyback modules or external tuning boxes, we intervene directly in the stock software. The optimization remains invisible from the outside, the ECU's software number does not change, and KTM diagnostic tools can continue to be used without restriction.

We customize every software build individually to your motorcycle and the hardware actually installed. We write the tuning software individually for your KTM EXC-F 500 and adapt the maps to the hardware installed on your motorcycle.

Retrofitting the CAN bus map switch for the KTM EXC-F 500

The new CAN bus map switch is required to use the 3rd map and other additional functions.

When selecting the retrofit option, we supply the matching map switch along with the necessary adapter. The map switch does not need to be ordered separately.

FLAWLESS Power Mapswitch for the KTM EXC-F 500

With the FLAWLESS Power Mapswitch, you can switch between 2 maps while riding – and between 3 maps if configured accordingly.

For example, Map 1 can hold the stock mapping or a restricted configuration, while Map 2 holds the complete FLAWLESS ECU Performance Flash with all desired features.

You can choose exactly which functions are controllable via the map switch directly in the configurator.

FLAWLESS Gearswitch for the KTM EXC-F 500

With the FLAWLESS Gearswitch, you lock the additional maps and only unlock them via a defined start procedure.

When starting your motorcycle normally, only Map 1 is active. If you start in 2nd gear, however, map selection is unlocked, and you can switch between the available maps as usual.

FLAWLESS Startup Map for the KTM EXC-F 500

With the FLAWLESS Startup Map, you determine which map your motorcycle automatically starts in every time.

For example, if you choose "Start in Map 1," your EXC-F 500 will always start in Map 1—regardless of which map was active before switching it off.

FLAWLESS Quickshifter GP for the KTM EXC-F 500

With our FLAWLESS Quickshifter GP, you can shift up precisely and quickly without pulling the clutch. Thanks to our specially developed custom code in the engine control unit, the quickshifter works much more precisely and functions even during the shift from 1st to 2nd gear.

The Quickshifter GP works with the existing gear position sensor and uses the reference values already stored in the control unit. No manual reading or individual adjustment of these values is necessary, and no additional sensor is installed.

Due to the closed-loop system of our code, the ignition is only released again once the gear change is fully completed. The interruption time adapts itself to the respective shift. This prevents the ignition from being activated too early, as can happen with systems featuring fixed interruption times.

Optionally, we also offer the popular shift acoustics or "shift pops." In the configurator, you select on which map the shift acoustics should be active and on which not.

FLAWLESS Hardcut Limiter for the KTM EXC-F 500

With the FLAWLESS Hardcut Limiter, we activate an additional 2-step limiter. You choose when or on which map it should be active directly in the configurator.

Depending on the setup, the Hardcut Limiter provides a particularly aggressive sound and can generate visible flames from the exhaust.

Important: Excessive use of the Hardcut Limiter can lead to engine damage.

FLAWLESS Launch Control for the KTM EXC-F 500

With our FLAWLESS Launch Control, we bring the start function known from the SX-F and FC models to your KTM EXC-F 500.

Optionally, we offer Launch Control with an acoustic function. In this mode, the Hardcut Limiter is active during the start phase, providing aggressive hardcut acoustics and—depending on the setup—visible flames. As soon as you release the clutch, you continue the start procedure as usual.

Pops & Bangs and overrun crackle for the KTM EXC-F 500

We tune the overrun fuel cut of your KTM EXC-F 500 individually to your setup and your preferences—from subtle overrun crackle to distinctly audible bangs.

Additionally, we can assign the pops & bangs function to specific individual maps upon request. This allows you to ride with a subtle setting on one map and activate full-blown acoustics on another.

What hardware is required for maximum power?

To achieve the stated performance increase, an aftermarket rear silencer is mandatory for the EXC-F 500, e.g., from Akrapovic or FMF.

For the maximum upgrade stage of +7 to +8 hp, we additionally recommend the FLAWLESS Performance Kit with our intake and the MWR sports mushroom air filter. The other optimization functions are available to you regardless of this.

How the software optimization of your KTM EXC-F 500 works

1. Configure – Order your FLAWLESS ECU Performance Flash and select the desired options.
2. Send in the control unit – Remove the ECU from your KTM EXC-F 500 and send it to us, well-packaged and insured.

No additional control unit or external tuning box is installed on the motorcycle for the software optimization. Your original ECU is programmed by us. The control unit is not opened or damaged and remains unchanged from the outside.

It allows you to determine which map your EXC-F 500 automatically starts in every time—regardless of which map was active before you switched it off.

Does the quickshifter also work from 1st to 2nd gear?

Yes. Our FLAWLESS Quickshifter GP works already during the shift from 1st to 2nd gear thanks to the specially developed custom code.

Do I need an additional sensor for the quickshifter?

No. The Quickshifter GP uses the existing gear position sensor and the reference values already stored in the control unit. No additional sensor is installed.

What does the Hardcut Limiter do?

It activates an additional 2-step limiter, the map for which you define in the configurator. Depending on the setup, it creates a particularly aggressive sound and visible flame formation. Excessive use can lead to engine damage.

What does the FLAWLESS Launch Control do?

It brings the launch control known from the SX-F and FC models to your 500 EXC-F. Optionally with an acoustic function, where the hardcut limiter is active during the start phase.

Is the software tuned to my exhaust system?

Yes. During tuning, we take into account the installed silencer, the header, the air filter, and other relevant modifications. Please provide these details in the comment field of your order.

Do I need an aftermarket silencer for the optimization?

For the stated performance increase, yes – an aftermarket silencer is necessary for this on the 500 EXC-F. The other optimization features are also available to you with standard hardware.

Can I still use a KTM diagnostic tool?

Yes. KTM diagnostic tools continue to function without restriction, as the ECU software number remains unchanged.

Does the ECU need to be opened for programming?

No. The ECU is not opened or damaged during programming. The optimization is also not detectable from the outside.

How long does processing take?

After we receive your ECU, processing generally takes place within 24 hours. For shipments from Switzerland, the processing time is usually 24 to 72 hours.
