KTM EXC-F 350, 450 & 500 2012–2016 – Performance Flash with CAN-bus map switch

Article author: Sebastian Schmidt Article published at: Oct 19, 2026

From now on, the KTM EXC performance upgrade with our FLAWLESS ECU Performance Flash is also available for the KTM EXC-F 350, 450, and 500 of the 2012 to 2016 model years – with full functionality.

Furthermore, we are bringing the technology of the current EXC generation to your bike. With the retrofitted CAN-bus map switch, you can control power, exhaust pops, and the hardcut limiter directly from the handlebars – even while riding.

Old bike. New tech. Full control.

KTM EXC performance upgrade with CAN-bus map switch

Previously, EXC-F models from 2012 to 2016 could not easily switch between different tunings while riding. That is exactly what we are changing now.

For this reason, we are retrofitting the original CAN-bus map switch from the new 2024+ EXC models onto your EXC-F 350, 450, or 500. This allows you to switch between three freely configurable maps directly from the handlebars:

  • Map 1 (white): Activation via the upper button
  • Map 2 (green): Activation via the lower button
  • Map 3 (white + green): Activation by long-pressing the lower button
  • TC button: Switch the hardcut limiter on and off at any time at the push of a button
  • QS button: Quickshifter – in preparation, coming soon

If you select the retrofit in the configurator, we will supply the appropriate map switch along with the adapter, so you do not need to order it separately.

3 Maps. One Bike. Full power at the push of a button.

We tune all three maps individually according to your wishes. A typical setup, for example, looks like this:

  • Map 1: Stock or restricted map
  • Map 2: Full KTM EXC performance upgrade with the complete Performance Flash
  • Map 3: Party mode – Performance Flash plus active exhaust pops

This allows you to switch between restricted, stock, increased power, and full acoustics in seconds, depending on the track, surface, and mood. You do not need to stop or connect a laptop.

Additionally, with the FLAWLESS Startup Map, you can determine which map your EXC-F is active in after every start. Alternatively, it can simply always start in the last selected map.

Three maps. One bike. Full control on the handlebars.

Hardcut limiter for the KTM EXC – 2-step, flame limiter, party mode

The highlight for those who like it loud: With the FLAWLESS hardcut limiter, we activate an additional 2-step limiter in your KTM EXC.

You can turn the hardcut limiter on and off at any time using the TC button on the retrofitted CAN-bus map switch. Depending on the setup, it provides a particularly aggressive sound. It can also produce visible flames from the exhaust.

The feature goes by many names in common parlance: 2-step limiter, flame limiter, party mode, and hardcut limiter. However, they all refer to the same function.

Push the button. Hit the limiter. Watch the flames.

Important: Frequent use of the hardcut limiter can lead to engine damage.

Pops & Bangs – from exhaust rumble to aggressive pops

We tune your KTM EXC's overrun fuel cutoff precisely to your setup – from subtle rumbling to loud popping.

Upon request, we can also specifically apply pops & bangs to individual maps. This allows you to ride quietly on one map and switch to full acoustics at the touch of a button on the handlebars.

How much the KTM EXC performance upgrade adds

Despite all the new functions, the actual engine optimization remains the foundation. To achieve this, we adjust the injection, ignition, and lambda control directly in the stock software of your original ECU.

Model Power Torque with FLAWLESS Performance Kit
KTM EXC-F 350 2012–2016 approx. +1 to +2 hp approx. +3 to +4 Nm –
KTM EXC-F 450 2012–2016 approx. +1.5 to +2.5 hp approx. +2 to +4 Nm approx. +4 to +5 hp
KTM EXC-F 500 2012–2016 approx. +2 to +3 hp approx. +3 to +5 Nm approx. +5 to +6 hp

KTM does not provide official power figures for these models. Therefore, our values refer to the difference compared to the stock state, measured on our dyno. A performance aftermarket silencer is required for the full performance upgrade of your KTM EXC, for example from Akrapovic or FMF.

It’s not just about peak power, though. We optimize, among other things:

  • Power and torque curves
  • Fuel tuning and AFR values
  • Exhaust gas temperatures – this reduces stress on the exhaust valves and cylinder head
  • Rideability through significantly smoother power delivery

For the EXC-F 450 and 500, we also offer our FLAWLESS Performance Kit. It consists of our own intake and an MWR sport pod air filter. Consequently, you get more peak power, a significantly longer power plateau, and a smoother power band – ideal for Supermoto bikes. Together with the Performance Flash, the kit costs only €120.00.

FLAWLESS Quickshifter – coming soon

The software for the quickshifter is already finished – including shift bangs. Since the EXC-F models from 2012 to 2016 do not have a gear sensor from the factory, we are retrofitting an additional plug & play QS sensor.

We are currently in final discussions with the sensor manufacturer. As soon as the sensor is available, we will inform you here and on Instagram.

No additional box required

All functions run via the original ECU of your KTM EXC. There is no piggyback, no tuning box, and no additional control unit.

Furthermore, we do not open the ECU during programming. The software number remains the same, and you can continue to use KTM diagnostic testers without restriction. After your ECU arrives, processing usually takes place within 24 hours.

Frequently asked questions about the KTM EXC performance upgrade

How much power does the KTM EXC performance upgrade add?

Depending on the model and setup, it is approx. +1 to +3 hp and up to +5 Nm. With the Performance Kit, up to +6 hp is possible for the EXC-F 450 and 500.

Do I need the CAN-bus map switch?

For the 3 maps and the hardcut limiter via the TC button, yes. If you select the retrofit in the configurator, we will supply the map switch along with the adapter.

Can I switch between maps while riding?

Yes. You can switch between restricted/stock, increased power, and party mode with exhaust pops directly from the handlebars using the CAN-bus map switch.

What is the difference between flame limiter and hardcut limiter?

None. 2-step limiter, flame limiter, party mode, and hardcut limiter are simply different names for the same function.

Am I allowed to ride with the optimized software on public roads?

No. Since the software differs from the stock state, use is only permitted on closed-off terrain or racetracks.
