Husqvarna 701 Supermoto Euro 5 vs. Euro 5+ Comparison

With the Husqvarna 701 Supermoto Euro 5+ from model year 2026 onwards, the LC4 single-cylinder engine receives a revision that goes beyond mere emissions standards. While the displacement remains virtually unchanged, the standard output increases significantly—and maintenance intervals are now longer than before.

What distinguishes the new generation from the 701 Supermoto Euro 5 (model years 2021 to 2024)? And where is there still untapped potential in both if the exhaust system, air filter, and engine management are tuned to one another? We show you the differences.

Feature 701 Supermoto Euro 5 701 Supermoto Euro 5+
Model years 2021–2024 from 2026
Displacement 692 cc 693 cc
Engine LC4 single-cylinder revised LC4 single-cylinder
Standard output 74 hp (54 kW) at 8,000 rpm 79 hp (58 kW)
Torque 73 Nm at 6,500 rpm approx. 73 Nm
Emissions standard Euro 5 Euro 5+
Oil change interval previous interval 15,000 km
Valve clearance check previous interval 30,000 km

The most striking figure is the jump in power from 74 to 79 hp. At least as interesting for those who ride their 701 extensively: Husqvarna has noticeably extended the service intervals—oil changes every 15,000 km, valve clearance checks every 30,000 km.

More than just a new emissions standard

For the 701 Supermoto, Euro 5+ means more than just adjusted emission values. Husqvarna has taken the opportunity to further develop the LC4—the basic concept remains, but the engine differs from its Euro 5 predecessor in several areas.

The key changes:

  • revised LC4 single-cylinder engine
  • adjusted engine management
  • Euro 5+-compliant exhaust strategy
  • higher peak power: 79 instead of 74 hp
  • extended service intervals

The technical relationship to the KTM 690 SMC-R remains intact. Both models share the LC4 and receive the same engine revision for 2026.

79 hp factory-standard – what about the torque?

Standard power increases by five horsepower. Torque remains at the level of the Euro 5 generation, at around 73 Nm, which is achieved at 6,500 rpm. A large portion of this additional power is generated in the upper RPM range—the less interesting half for a Supermoto.

A 701 Supermoto is rarely ridden at 8,000 rpm. The crucial factor is what happens between 3,000 and 6,000 rpm: when accelerating out of a corner, during throttle response from low RPMs, and during load changes. This is exactly where the familiar constant throttle surging and the torque dip at around 4,500 rpm occur in the stock tuning.

This is where our FLAWLESS ECU Performance Flash comes in—not at the maximum figure on the data sheet.

FLAWLESS ECU Performance Flash for the 701 Supermoto Euro 5 (2021–2024)

For the Husqvarna 701 Supermoto Euro 5 from 2021 to 2024, we write the FLAWLESS ECU Performance Flash individually for your motorcycle and the installed hardware.

Depending on the setup, we achieve around +5 to +8 hp and +10 to +12 Nm of torque.

More important than the pure numbers is what changes during riding: constant throttle surging disappears, the torque dip at approx. 4,500 rpm is leveled out, and power delivery becomes more homogeneous across the entire RPM range. Additionally, we adjust the injection maps to ensure Air-Fuel-Ratio values are in the optimal range—this lowers exhaust temperatures and reduces the thermal load on exhaust valves and the cylinder head.

Available optional features

Depending on your desired configuration, features include:

  • FLAWLESS Power Mapswitch – switch between stock mapping and optimization via the handlebar
  • FLAWLESS Gearswitch with Safemap – a third mode that is automatically active upon a normal start, running on the stock map (A or A2). If you start in second gear, the full configuration is unlocked
  • Linear Throttle – 1:1 throttle grip and throttle valve characteristic; 50% throttle grip means 50% throttle valve opening
  • FLAWLESS Hardcut Limiter – the stock limiter becomes a genuine racing limiter
  • FLAWLESS Launch Control – in riding mode 2, the RPM is limited to 6,500 rpm when shifting into first gear, and then rises according to the front wheel speed
  • FLAWLESS Quickshifter GP – clutchless upshifting without an additional sensor, can be deactivated by starting in sixth gear
  • Pops & Bangs – individually configured deceleration fuel cut, optionally different for each riding mode

The Hardcut Limiter and Launch Control require an exhaust system without a catalytic converter and without a DB-killer. For configurations with a catalytic converter, only a subtle crackle during deceleration is possible.

FLAWLESS ECU Performance Flash for the 701 Supermoto Euro 5+ (from 2026)

We have developed a dedicated FLAWLESS ECU Performance Flash for the revised 701 Supermoto Euro 5+ (from model year 2026 onwards).

The starting point differs from the Euro 5 generation: Husqvarna has already increased the peak power from the factory. Therefore, the gain here lies less in the peak value and more in the mid-range and overall rideability.

With our tuning, we achieve around +2.5 to +3.5 hp in peak power and up to +20 to +23 Nm at approx. 4,500 rpm, depending on the installed hardware.

This shifts the character of the LC4 much more significantly than the peak power figure suggests. Precisely in the range where a Supermoto is actually ridden—accelerating out of tight corners and transitioning from low to mid-range RPMs—the power delivery becomes noticeably more potent.

For this generation as well, we configure the features individually and tune the flash to your specific setup.

And the older models?

The 701 Supermoto has been around since 2014, and we have a custom optimization for every generation:

For the 2017 to 2019 models, we also offer the FLAWLESS Quickshifter GP Retrofit—no additional sensor required, purely through our custom code in the ECU.

Why exhaust, air filter, and software belong together

The LC4 operates as a complete system. If you only install a different end silencer or a sports air filter, you change air flow and backpressure—but the stock tuning is written for the stock hardware.

On the 701 Supermoto, there is an additional component that many underestimate: the air filter box cover. Whether you run the stock cover, a drilled cover, or an open configuration significantly changes the intake air volume—and therefore the necessary tuning.

Sports air filter and air filter cover for the 701 Supermoto

When tuning your 701, we take the actually installed filter into account. You can find suitable sports air filters in our K&N Air Filter and MWR Air Filter categories. Filters from BMC or Rade Garage are also common.

When ordering, please also specify which air filter box cover you are using—stock, Powerparts cover, drilled cover, or open. This information noticeably changes the tuning.

Sports exhaust systems for the 701 Supermoto

Changing the end silencer or exhaust system is one of the most common mods on the 701. Beyond the sound, a more flow-efficient system in combination with intake modifications can unlock additional potential.

In our shop, you will find systems from Akrapovic, LeoVince, and MIVV. Systems from Remus, Austin Racing, and Arrow are also common on the 701 Supermoto—we tune the software for these as well.

When ordering, we take into account, among other things:

  • installed end silencer
  • catalytic converter present or not
  • configuration of the DB-killer
  • installed air filter
  • air filter box cover: stock, Powerparts, drilled, or open
  • other engine or intake modifications

The optimal performance setup for the 701 Supermoto

A typical setup for the Euro 5 generation consists of:

FLAWLESS ECU Performance Flash + sports air filter + open air filter box cover + matching sports exhaust system

The crucial part is that the software is written specifically for this exact combination at the end. A system without adjusted tuning wastes potential—and changes the mixture in a way that is not desirable.

701 Supermoto or KTM 690 SMC-R?

Both models share the LC4 single-cylinder engine and receive the same engine revision with 79 hp for 2026. Differences lie in chassis tuning, ergonomics, and equipment—not in the base engine.

For software optimization, this means: The approaches are comparable, but the tuning is performed individually for every model and setup. If you are interested in the KTM side, you can find details in our article KTM 690 SMC-R Euro 5 vs. Euro 5+.

Do you ride a 701 Enduro instead of the Supermoto? You can find the corresponding optimizations in our Husqvarna Enduro category.

Individual tuning instead of standard mapping

Every 701 Supermoto is built differently. That is why we configure our FLAWLESS ECU Performance Flash individually for your motorcycle.

When ordering, tell us your setup—especially the end silencer, catalytic converter, air filter, and air filter box cover. Then, send us your removed ECU. We show you how to do this correctly in our guide How to send us your ECU correctly.

Generally, we ship your ECU back within 24 hours of receipt. The unit is not opened, the software number remains unchanged, and Husqvarna diagnostic tools continue to function without restriction.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Husqvarna 701 Supermoto Euro 5 and Euro 5+

How much power does the Husqvarna 701 Supermoto have from the factory?

The Euro 5 generation from 2021 to 2024 produces 74 hp (54 kW) at 8,000 rpm and 73 Nm at 6,500 rpm. The Euro 5+ from model year 2026 reaches 79 hp (58 kW).

What is the difference between Euro 5 and Euro 5+ for the 701 Supermoto?

In addition to the adjusted emissions strategy, Husqvarna has revised the LC4 and increased peak power from 74 to 79 hp. This is accompanied by significantly longer maintenance intervals: oil changes every 15,000 km, valve clearance checks every 30,000 km.

How much does the FLAWLESS ECU Performance Flash add for the Euro 5?

Depending on the hardware, around +5 to +8 hp and +10 to +12 Nm. At least as noticeable is that the constant throttle surging disappears and the torque dip at approx. 4,500 rpm is leveled out.

How much does the Flash add for the Euro 5+ from 2026?

Around +2.5 to +3.5 hp peak power and up to +20 to +23 Nm at approx. 4,500 rpm. Because Husqvarna has already increased the factory peak power to 79 hp, the gain here lies primarily in the mid-range—exactly where a Supermoto is actually ridden.

Does the constant throttle surging of the 701 disappear with the Flash?

Yes. The constant throttle surging is caused by the very lean stock tuning in the partial load range. With adjusted injection maps, it is no longer present after optimization.

Is the A2 license compliance maintained?

With the FLAWLESS Gearswitch, we can create a Safemap upon request, which is automatically active upon a normal start and runs on the stock map—either as an A or A2 configuration. Please specify which variant you would like in the comments field when ordering.

Can I retrofit a quickshifter?

Yes. Our FLAWLESS Quickshifter GP works via the existing gear position sensor; an additional sensor is not necessary. For models from 2017 to 2019, we offer the retrofit separately as well.

Do I need a sports exhaust system for the Performance Flash?

Software optimization also works with stock hardware. For the specified maximum power increase, we recommend an aftermarket end silencer, a sports air filter, and an open air filter box cover—we then tune the mapping specifically for that.

Does the optimization work with a catalytic converter?

Yes. Power increases and optimized injection maps are also possible with a catalytic converter. However, the Hardcut Limiter and Launch Control require a system without a cat and without a DB-killer, and the exhaust acoustics are significantly more subtle with a catalytic converter.

How long does the processing of my ECU take?

As a rule, we process your ECU within 24 hours of receipt. For shipments from Switzerland, the processing time is usually 24 to 72 hours.
